Categories and Function of Sound-The Lion King Movie Clip

The Lion King

The Lion King Clip (The Lion King: Diamond Editio

  1. The three basic categories of sound are dialogue spoken words by two or more characters in a scene. Sound effects is any sound, other than music or speech, artificially reproduced to create an effect in a dramatic presentation, as the sound of a storm or a creaking door.   Music is broken down to include the score the background mood music that accompanies the action on the screen, usually composed specifically for a film but sometimes partly or entirely compiled from existing music. Soundtrack the part of the film containing all the recorded sound (music, dialogue and sound effects), typically recorded to a digital, analog optical, or magnetic format that may be on the film itself or played in synchronization with the picture.  Also used as a term for a separate compilation of songs and music selections used in the film and sold as a promotional tool for both film and the songs.
  2. The score can be heard in the background at the beginning of The Lion King movie clip of Simba being given the right to become king after his father in a ritual performed my Rafiki one of King’s advisors. The score and sound effects help to enhance the culture of the ritual being performed.  The singing of different songs throughout the movie makes the movie enjoyable.
  3. Sound played a major part in the overall film. The music drew you into the different scenes and they help to tell the story.  The song hakuna matata which meant no worries in one of the scenes aids the audience the better identify with Simba as he decides to live a care free life not worrying about anything.  I think the sound effects were realistic for being in an animal kingdom or a national park with the exception that the animals can speak like human beings.
  4. If the sound effects and score were removed from this particular scene then it would be hard to understand what is going on. The sound, color, camera shorts all interweave into each scene the support the films story and plot.  How can you have a jungle scene without the various sound effects to heighten the audience feeling of being right there in the middle of the jungle with the character.
